RACE JOKE ... HOW FAR IS TOO FAR

SO i asked myself how far is too far when it comes to race jokes . is it really okay?? is there really an acception for race jokes when you are in fact the race that is the but of the joke ?? is it okay to tell jokes about another persons race wheather there present or not ?? I really Dnt kno . if i have Black jokes to tell i usually am telling them from the comfort of my own home amongst family and friends. But what do you say about those who just go too far with the race jokes even to the extent of actually seriously offending another race . MAYBE ITS JUST BEST NOT TO TELL THEM AT ALL ?? TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK?
